Bring real-world problem-solving into your classroom with the Precision Drop STEM Challenge, a hands-on design experience for students. Working in teams, students will design and build a system that accurately drops an object into a target from height using everyday classroom materials. The challenge encourages learners to explore gravity, accuracy, and control while applying design thinking through testing and improvement.
During this live challenge, students will plan, build, test, and refine their designs before coming together in the live online showcase with schools from around the US. Classes will either demonstrate their Precision Drop system live or share a short video of it in action to share later. This collaborative, non-competitive event celebrates creativity, iteration, and global connection — with student thinking firmly in the spotlight.
Your challenge is to design and build a Precision Drop system that safely and accurately drops a small object into a target from a height. The key challenge is accuracy and control. Students must think carefully about gravity, alignment, stability, and release mechanisms to ensure the object lands in the correct place.
You will design, build, test, and refine your machine, all during the live session!
At the end of the challenge, you can join us in the cloud to show us your creation - either demonstrating LIVE or by creating a video to be shared later.
